Folan’s Cottage

As featured in The Sunday Times, 26th February 2012

Folan’s Cottage is a beautiful architecturally designed holiday home by Peter Legge and Associates. www.plaarchitects.ie, that was rebuilt from two ruined stone cottage and completed in 2010.

The cottages used to be lived in by a bachelor farmer named Mr Folan who was evacuated to a modern ugly prefab in the 1970s and the cottages soon fell into disrepair. On cold winter nights Mr Folan used to bring his few livestock into the house with him for warmth. He had no electricity or running water.

The cottage is only a few meters from a wonderful sandy beach, with views of the Twelve Bens Mountains and across the ocean to the Aran Islands.
