Golf: Famous 27 hole Connemara Golf links (10km) and 18 hole course Oughterard (45km) Horse Riding: There are several riding schools and facilities for pony trekking in the vicinity catering for all standards. Tennis: Two tennis courts in Roundstone (8km). Hill walking: The Twelve Bens and Errisbeg have walks to suit different standards. There are also coastal walks around the headlands of the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing: Lake and river fishing for salmon and sea trout are available at many different locations locally. Sea fishing from Roundstone, Clifden and Cleggan. Mussels and cockles can be picked on local beaches. Windsurfing: The very safe beaches of Gorteen and Dogs Bay (5km) are popular locations for windsurfing, kite surfing and dinghy sailing. |
Surfing: False Bay near Doonlaughan is a popular location and very busy in summer but beware of rip currents and the rocks. Carrownisky north of Killary has excellent surf. Restaurants: There are many excellent restaurants in Clifden, Ballyconneely and Roundstone specialising in seafood, Connemara lamb and homegrown vegetables. Food: Wild mushrooms can be picked in season in neighboring fields. Fresh lobster, craw fish and crab can be bought from the fisherman on our beach. Bogs: Roundstone has a famous blanket bog which is of great interest to students of botany. It contains heathers normally only found in the Mediterranean.
